Nautical Practice

Nautical Practice – Your Next Step to Becoming a Skipper.

Practice is the second key step toward earning your skipper license — right after completing the theory course. While theory gives you a solid foundation, it’s the hands-on experience that truly brings everything together.

At Let's Boat, our training is built on four essential pillars: Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Inspiration.

By the time you start your practical course, you already have the knowledge and, hopefully, the inspiration. The other two — skills and real experience — you’ll gain on board, training with our experienced skipper-instructors.

Get ready to turn theory into confident action — and bring your boating to life!

Don't put off your dream of going on a boat!

How the practice works

During your nautical practice, you’ll go through every key step a skipper takes when preparing and leading a voyage. You’ll learn how to inspect and take over a yacht, check all systems, handle sails, maneuver under engine, dock safely, give commands, read weather forecasts, make decisions — and most importantly, enjoy the sea.

This is an intensive hands-on course under the guidance of experienced instructors, where knowledge turns into skills, and skills turn into confidence and real experience.

We carefully select modern, well-equipped yachts for our training. We don’t use outdated boats with obsolete instruments — if you're going to learn, you should learn on the best.

To ensure true quality, there are never more than 4 students on board. We believe real learning isn’t possible with 6, 8, or more people in one group. With our approach, every student gets full attention from the instructor and enough time behind the helm.

Daily sessions usually run from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a break for lunch. For night training, the time will be chosen by the instructor.

Each student has a private cabin — and is welcome to bring one companion to share the journey. While all focus stays on your training, your guest can enjoy the sea, landscapes, and cultural beauty of the destination.

What will we do?

  • Boat handling – learn to steer, maneuver, dock, and anchor the yacht confidently.
  • Sail techniques and rigging – practice hoisting, trimming, and adjusting sails for different wind conditions.
  • Working with nautical charts and compass – navigate using paper charts, plot positions, and plan safe routes.
  • Using electronic navigation and radio – operate chartplotters, GPS systems, and VHF radios for safe communication and positioning.
  • Understanding marine weather – read forecasts, analyze weather patterns, and make informed decisions at sea.

Our fleet for practice

For training, we use only modern, well-equipped yachts that meet current safety and comfort standards. Our typical training boats range from 38 to 43 feet in length — the optimal size for both effective learning and a comfortable onboard experience.

Each yacht is equipped with:

  • Modern navigation and communication systems
  • All necessary rescue equipment
  • Double cabins for accommodation
  • Toilets and showers
  • A galley (kitchen) for onboard meals
  • Electricity and WiFi

If you have a preferred yacht model in mind, let us know — we’re happy to take your request into account when planning your practice.

With Let's Boat, you’ll train on yachts that reflect the real conditions of modern boating — so you’ll be ready for your own journeys from day one.

Duration of practice

The duration of the maritime practice depends on the course you choose.

It can vary from a few hours — for individual masterclasses — to a full week or more for core training programs. Each course is designed to give you the time you need to build skills and confidence at sea, without any rush.

Practice location

During training, we provide not only the best yachts — but also the best locations to sail and learn. Each region offers unique sailing conditions, and every season brings its own set of challenges and opportunities.

Wind patterns, currents, commercial traffic, and the density of nearby vessels all help create realistic, dynamic environments — perfect for learning. We believe the best training happens in busy, demanding waters, where you're fully prepared for real-life sailing.

We offer practice in Greece, Croatia, Turkey, France (Bay of Biscay), and the Canary Islands — carefully selected locations that combine beauty, complexity, and rich nautical character.

Wherever you choose to train, you'll be immersed in a setting that builds real skills, sharpens your instincts, and boosts your confidence at sea.

Practice equipment

If you’re already a skipper working on your skills, you likely know what to bring. But if you’re just starting out — don’t worry! We’ll guide you through everything you need to feel confident and comfortable at sea. Depending on the course, location, and season, you may need a windbreaker, raincoat, protective overalls, non-slip shoes (topsiders), a cap, and sunglasses.

We’ll also recommend the best types, quality, and trusted brands of equipment to make sure you’re well-prepared for your training and ready for any weather conditions. Let's Boat cadets and graduates get special discounts from our partners like Gorgany.com Ordana.com and more.
